* Betty Friedan, talking about her mother-- "she was very critical of me and made me feel very insecure" Her mother always told her she was unpretty for her nose, and let it be known that betty's younger sister was the pretty and appriciated one.

* About her childhood-- "we took turns choosing until the whole collection was divided and then we bame other people. Princesses, beautiful, sophisticated heiresses, movie stars, spies" --dress up

* "We thought we were very wicked and daring" -- Her teenage life playing 'postman' in which a guy was behind a door and the girl had to open the door to have the postman hand her a letter and kiss her.

* Friedan explained her 3 years before entering highschool as "years of almost perfect happiness"

* She wrote in her teenage autobiography -- "That year i think i began to have an inferiorit complex" she wrote about attending highschool in 1934. "I thought myself a social outcast and I plumbed the depths of misery"

* "At night I looked out at the park from my window and thought of the others all having a good time and I felt so sorry for myself. Everytime anyone spoke to me, my feelings got hurt...Life held nothing in store. I decided that I would probubly never get married because I had no sex appeal."
